Police are blaming an increase in gun violence in New York s Suffolk County this year on drugs and gangs.

According to records compiled by the Suffolk County police department, 63 people were wounded by gunfire between Jan.

1 and Nov.

30.

That s a 21 percent hike from the same period in 2012 when 52 people were shot.

Suffolk police Deputy Chief Kevin Fallon tells Newsday1 that the vast majority of these shootings involve gangs or drugs or a personal vendetta.

By contrast, gun violence in neighboring Nassau County dropped by 24 percent for the first 10 months of the year.
